New edition of the Fair WineList

The third completely revised edition of our Fair Wine List South Africa is ready. Listed are sustainable and WIETA or Fairtrade accredited wineries only.

Three categories

The third, completely revised edition of the Fair Wine List from Stichting Projecten Zuid-Afrika - South Africa Foundation has been finalised. The inventory lists South African wine farms in three categories:

• A. WIETA (Wine Industry Ethical Trade Association) -accredited wineries, including their supplying vineyards
  
• B. WIETA-accredited wineries excluding their suppliers
• C. Producers or Fairtrade wine

Criteria

The most important criteria for WIETA accreditation are based on the new South African labour law. The law includes rules and regulations concerning proper payment, training and working conditions as well as decent housing, schooling for the workers' children and access to health care. Fairtrade focuses on management and trade.

Organic wines

Additional information provided:

• Whether the wine has been produced organically or in an environmentally-friendly manner
• Whether nature conservancy is practised at the winery
• Whether the winery is open to visitors (tasting, eating, overnight) and is wheelchair-accessible
• Wholesalers and retailers in Belgium and The Netherlands and abroad.
