Professionalisation"For me, the acquaintance with South Africa began over five years ago. Rik and I were married in the African bush - literally - and then spent a brief period traveling there. On the one hand, we were introduced to a beautiful country with an enormous cultural diversity. On the other hand there was the confrontation with the colonial past. The poor living conditions and lack of good education ensure that people in the townships live in isolation. This is why, once I'd returned to the Netherlands, I wanted to make a contribution in the form of volunteer work - so that, hopefully, better working and living conditions could be created for a few kids in South Africa. As participant in a team of support specialists, it has given me great pleasure to make a modest contribution to the further professionalization of the newsletter in particular. With the ultimate goal, of course, that potential donors decide actually to become supporters. The choice was easy. SPZA attempts with conviction to do something about the problems in the townships. Volunteering encourages me to continue: even with limited resources we're still capable of great successes for the education of children. This way, we hope to prepare them for a place on the labour market. This is why you volunteer. And also because cooperating with the SPZA is so enjoyable and instructive." Hilde von Michaelis, Ubuntu newsletter editor Open for suggestions and comments"When I saw SPZA's posting on nobelematch.nl, I was immediately curious and wanted to know more about the foundation. After I had read more about SPZA's projects and objectives, I was convinced and registered immediately as a volunteer! SPZA is open to suggestions and comments from volunteers and it is also lots of fun and educational to work for SPZA."
